The Golf Course
The golf course measures 6,329 yards and has a par of 70. It generally plays longer than its yardage due to the elevation of several greens and fairways and although originally a heathland course, there is now an abundance of mature trees and shrubs that line its fairways.
The greens are always true and fast and will test the very best of players. The celebrated golf commentator Peter Alliss has described our seventeenth hole as “one of the best short holes in the South of England”. The course is always presented in excellent condition throughout the year.
Martin Hawtree, the renowned International golf course architect, has redesigned Sonning’s original Taylor/Colt layout and has produced an impressive new 18th hole that finishes in front of the clubhouse. With full fairway irrigation, an excellent practice range and short game area, Sonning provides some of the best facilities in the South of England.
“Harry Colt is the true father of golf course architecture. His knowledge of the game, his vision and love of the land allowed him to create courses of great distinction that have stood the test of time as well as any in the world.”
